This week we’re dropping an episode on maps. Customer Journey Maps to be specific.. 
So, we’ll start with the basics. What is a map?
Most of us know what a map is. It’s simply a visual representation of a concept that usually gives us further understanding.
Take this scenario for example.
The year is 1969 and Woodstock is approaching. You and your friends live in Indianapolis and are making the big trip to Bethel, New York. How do you find your way to the rural festival site? Obviously, you don’t have the luxury of smartphones equipped with Google Maps, Waze, etc.. (bummer). GPS wasn’t available yet either! Gasp..
Thankfully, you have your trusty road map to guide the way. Your friends highlight all the roads you’ll need to follow to get to your destination. Pretty helpful, right? Picture what it would be like if you didn’t have access that road map and followed directions based on word of mouth.. this would make things WAY more difficult. Could you make the journey mapless without getting lost along the way?
Compare this to organizations today.
Understanding your customers’ journey and what they go through is critical to running a successful business. So, how do companies comprehend their customers’ journey? First of all, it’s important for everyone to be on the same page. Picture one person or team trying to verbally explain the steps their customers go through in a room full of stakeholders without any visualization… yikes.
This is where Customer Journey Maps come in to save the day.
Customer Journey Maps allow you to easily understand the phases, steps, actions, touchpoints, thoughts, and emotions your customers go through when engaging with your business. This gives everyone a clearer understanding of the service they’re providing and helps locate painpoints to improve on!
